SMT AXI/5DX Quality Inspection Specialist

Location: Newark, CA
Department: Manufacturing Quality
Reports to: Quality Engineering Manager
Schedule: Day Shift

A day in this role

You start your shift by preparing the AXI line, loading the correct program set, and running first-article scans. As boards move through, you review X‑ray results to spot solder joint anomalies, misplaced components, and SMT paste issues with consistent accuracy. Throughout the day, you partner with process and manufacturing engineers, share inspection data, and help tune parameters to improve visual defect yields. Between builds, you verify results with magnification tools against IPC‑A‑610 acceptance criteria, reference drawings and BOMs, and keep the work area 5S‑ready. You wrap up by logging findings, supporting operator training, and getting the machine ready for the next run.

What you will do

• Own day‑to‑day Automated X‑ray Inspection (AXI) and support the production line.
• Review AXI results to consistently detect component placement errors and solder joint defects.
• Collaborate closely with processing and engineering teams to drive higher visual yield and resolve process issues.
• Operate AXI (including 5DX) to inspect chips, ICs, connectors, joints, text/markings, and related features.
• Use magnification aids to verify to IPC‑A‑610 standards.
• Read and interpret assembly drawings, BOMs, MPI, ECN, Deviation, and other inspection‑related documentation.
• Load and run AXI programs per instruction and verify program setup.
• Execute AXI scans to consistently identify SMT paste adequacy and component placement accuracy.
• Support engineers and operators through equipment training, data collection, and system evaluations.
• Participate in continuous improvement and 5S activities.
• Perform other AXI support and production duties as assigned.

What you bring

• Minimum 3 years operating AXI or 5DX equipment.
• High School Diploma.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, and ESD practices.
• IPC‑A‑610 Certified.

Compensation

Salary Range: $20.00 - $27.00/ Hour
