Job Summary:


This role involves acting as a Scrum Master for cross-functional program review and product delivery teams within a government organization. The Scrum Master will lead and mentor teams in agile principles, facilitate agile ceremonies, coach product owners, maintain delivery metrics, and report on project progress. The position requires strong agile methodology expertise and experience working with software development processes. The primary work location is remote, with potential for in-person meetings in Edmonton. The contract is initially for one year, with a possible extension up to twenty-four months.

Location: Remote

Responsibilities:

- Lead and mentor cross-functional program review and product delivery teams in agile principles, policies, and procedures.
- Lead and facilitate key agile ceremonies (planning sessions, stand-ups, sprint reviews, product demos, retrospectives, refinement, and ad-hoc sessions).
- Facilitate effective service and deliverable delivery through coaching and guiding the product owner and team.
- Coach the team on agile methodology applications (effective estimates, sprint commitments, handling external dependencies, eliminating blocking issues).
- Promote successful achievement of sprint goals and commitments, acting as an intermediary between the product owner and team.
- Guide the product owner on reporting, release planning, and roadmapping.
- Maintain delivery metrics and report on product-level plans, progress, and quality assurance using project management tools and artifacts (sprint burndown/velocity charts, product and sprint backlogs).
- Participate in digital service delivery activities, such as user research and usability testing.
- Provide project/assignment examples demonstrating Scrum Master expertise (per the detailed requirements outlined in the job posting).

Required Skills & Certifications:

- Active Certified Scrum Master certification.
- Knowledge of various software development methodologies (agile, waterfall, scrum).
- 2 years experience delivering training sessions via web-based interactive technologies.
- 2 years experience in Agile project methodology.
- 2 years experience leading and facilitating key agile ceremonies.
- 2 years experience leading and mentoring teams in agile principles, policies, and procedures.
- 2 years experience planning work aligned to product owner priorities.
- 2 years experience with software development processes and associated best practices.
- 5 years experience working on agile software development and modern, service design-based projects.
- Ability to obtain necessary security clearances (including potential for a "Royal Canadian Mounted Police Top Secret Clearance").

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- 5 years directly related experience in web service or development.
- 5 years experience developing and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships across teams.
- 2 years experience working in or for the public sector.
- 1 year experience working with teams applying UX design, service design, design thinking, etc.

Special Considerations:

- Primarily remote work, but may require in-person meetings in Edmonton on reasonable notice.
- The Scrum Master will be responsible for providing their own equipment for remote work (computers, software, etc.), though the Province will provide access and credentials to GoA systems.
- Criminal record check required. Enhanced security clearance may be required depending on project assignment. Acceptance is contingent upon the Province's written approval following acceptable security clearances.

Scheduling:

- Full-time (7.25 hours/day, 36.25 hours/week).
- Work across two to three projects simultaneously.
- Time, location, and frequency of work will vary depending on project needs.
- Maximum of 1960 hours per term unless otherwise agreed upon with the Province. The actual hours may vary based on project demands.
- Start day of the week is the first day of the month.
