Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

Department: Maintenance 5000

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

FLSA Status: Hourly Non-exempt

A day in the life

You start your shift with a walk-through of the plant, prioritizing work orders in the MRP/ERP queue. A forklift needs its scheduled PM, a molding line calls for a root-cause check on a pneumatic hiccup, and production has a mold change on deck. You stage the mold per documented procedures, verify connections, and bench-test fill guns and ejectors to ensure a clean release. In between, you’re cleaning, lubricating, and tightening what keeps our operation moving—because reliability isn’t an event, it’s a habit.

When a line goes down, you troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electronic, and basic electrical systems—reading schematics and tracing faults until you isolate the issue. You might swap a fuse, replace a worn fitting, or assist with minor carpentry or plumbing. Before lunch, you run water-treatment checks (hardness, pH, etc.) and log results. In the afternoon, you complete predictive maintenance tasks, service air compressors and driers, and update all paperwork so the next shift knows what’s ready and what’s next.

What you’ll own

• General upkeep of building and production equipment, including troubleshooting and repair with a root-cause mindset.
• Preventive and predictive maintenance on plant machines and forklifts; cleaning, lubricating, greasing, and oiling tools and equipment for peak performance.
• Assist peers in diagnosing machinery issues; perform minor electrical tasks (e.g., bulbs, fuses) and support basic carpentry and repairs; if licensed, complete routine electrical repairs per manuals and direction.
• Service and replace minor plumbing fixtures; apply paint, varnish, and stain to protect and finish surfaces.
• Set up, remove, and store production molds per documented procedures.
• Bench-test, clean, rebuild, and inspect fill guns and ejectors to maintain reliable operation.
• Collect, test, and report water samples (e.g., hardness, pH) at key process stages.
• Follow job specifications, task lists, and complete all required documentation accurately.
• Drive equipment reliability through disciplined preventive and predictive programs.
• Lead with safety: follow all protocols, including lockout/tagout; wear required PPE correctly.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area; support assigned facility or equipment cleaning as directed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; two-year degree or technical certificate preferred.

• Approximately 3 years of related maintenance experience, with the ability to work independently on standard repairs.

• Proficiency reading schematics to troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

• Experience with MRP/ERP work order processes.

• Hands-on exposure to low-pressure boilers, air compressors, air driers, and vacuum pumps.

• Experience maintaining forklifts.

• Willingness to work assigned shifts, overtime, and attend after-hours meetings as needed.

• Self-starter with strong time management, safety focus, and professional conduct aligned to Altor Solutions standards.

Tools and materials

The plant supplies the tools you need to perform all job functions. Personal tools may be used if reviewed and approved by plant management.

Physical demands

Frequently lift and carry up to 45 pounds. Requires close vision. Expect regular sitting, use of hands, and talking/hearing; frequent standing and walking; reaching with hands and arms; and stooping/crouching, bending, or twisting. Occasionally push, pull, and move materials and work in awkward positions, including under equipment or around operating machinery.
