Job Description

Salary: $105,000 - 145,000 per year Requirements:

• I require a degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience handling cloud-based databases.
• I expect a solid understanding and experience with best practices for migrating from on-premises databases to cloud environments.
• You should possess a comprehensive understanding of developing and executing ETL routines for data transfer between schema structures; as well as experience with AWS RDS managed databases, specifically MySQL and Amazon Aurora; and familiarity with cloud deployment and integration technologies like Terraform.
• Proficiency in database administration and data restoration tools is essential.
• You need to have knowledge of database connection tools and methods, as well as experience with database languages such as SQL.
• Experience with AWS Multi-AZ deployments and replication tools is required, including technologies like MySQL RDS/Aurora Global Database for multi-region replication and disaster recovery. Familiarity with AWS CloudWatch and AWS Backup for monitoring, alerting, and automated backup/recovery, as well as AWS Lambda for automation and orchestration, is also needed.
• An understanding of DevOps practices, continuous delivery, DevSecOps, digital stacks, and platforms is important.
• Familiarity with AWS QuickSight for report creation and management, including data visualization and dashboard building, is an added advantage.

Responsibilities:

• I am looking for you to design and implement database infrastructure in a public cloud environment, overseeing performance monitoring, capacity planning, and the automation of database processes.
• You will develop and implement strategies for migrating AWS RDS databases, including MySQL and Amazon Aurora.
• Your tasks will include planning, scripting, executing, and supporting the upgrade or migration of data to new schema structures, database software, or hardware.
• I need you to develop scripts that support integration with monitoring tools, automate backups, and report usage metrics.
• You will be responsible for tuning the performance of MySQL and Amazon Aurora databases and queries.
• Ensuring 24/7 availability, performance, backup, recovery, and security of AWS RDS databases will be critical.
• You will implement cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, encryption, and continuous monitoring.
• Troubleshooting, isolating, and resolving database issues in a cloud setting will also be part of your duties.
• I expect you to develop scripts, jobs, stored procedures, and functions to replicate data to backup databases and purge old data from log tables.
• Testing and deploying patches and security updates will be vital to maintaining our systems.
• Your support in the development, deployment, and maintenance of customer reporting solutions will be invaluable.
• Additionally, providing technical assistance and support to customers will be part of your role.
• You will independently troubleshoot system issues and create communication bridges with appropriate personnel to restore databases to their proper operating condition, documenting all efforts from beginning to end.
• Your collaboration with the DevOps team will be essential to integrate database solutions into CI/CD pipelines and ensure the seamless operation of applications.
• I also look to you for contributions to documentation and process improvements.
